[Also in Division H1] In a process for making a double-sided magnetic recording disc, a glass plate 1 (Fig. 2) coated with cobalt 3 and thermosetting resin 7 is placed on ring 8, under split mould ring 9. Woven glass fibre re-inforcing layers 11, 13 and glass core plate 12 are assembled inside ring 9, while applying liquid resin to the interior of ring 9. A second cobalt/resin-coated glass plate 11, 3<SP>1</SP>, 71 is inverted over layer 13, and assembly completed by screwing down a second ring 14. Downward pressure of ring 11 pressed the component layers into intimate contact, causing excess resin to exude into peripheral space 10 in mould ring 9. The assembly is heated to cure the resin. Removal of the glass plates 1, 1<SP>1</SP> from the completed disc is effected by removing the screws 15, Fig. 2, that retain ring 14, placing rubber O-ring 17 and plate 18 (Fig. 3) over glass plate 1<SP>1</SP> and reducing pressure in space 21 through connector 20. When bolts 22 are screwed down, the reduced pressure causes glass plate 1<SP>1</SP> to follow plate 18 rather than cobalt layer 3<SP>1</SP>. Glass plate 1 is similarly removed. |
