PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus in which not only different display images can be switched but an erect image and an inverted image can be both displayed at a time. SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a triangular prism 5 which is set in such a manner that one side face 5a of the prism 5 is the entrance and exit face for rays and that two other side faces 5b, 5c of the prism 5 make smaller angles than right angle with respect to the entrance and exit face 5a. Image thin plates 16 (17 to 23) are disposed in the outside of the respective two side faces 5b, 5c of the prism 5. The light from the image thin plates 16 (17 to 23) is totally reflected or not totally reflected on the two side faces 5b, 5c of the prism so that both of the erect image and the inverted image are displayed at a time. This relation of display is switched by changing the viewing points for the two side faces 5b, 5c of the prism 5.
