PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cylindrical permanent magnet rotor which can easily realize a multipole structure and a small size, can be manufactured with high productivity, and is low in cost, and to obtain its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: After cut-out permanent magnet segments 10 are magnetized, the segments 10 are arranged close to each other in one row on a metal thin plate 12 to obtain a belt-shaped element. Then a hexagonal pillar columnar polygonal ring 11, which has as many outer circumferential surfaces as the arranged permanent magnet segments 10 and whose respective outer circumfrential surfaces 11a have approximately the same shapes as the bottom surfaces of the permanet magnet segments 10, is made. The thin plate 12 is bent at positions between the adjacent permanent magnet segments 10 and wound on the outer circumferential surfaces of the polygonal ring 11, so as to have the permanent magnet segments 10 positioned at the respective outer circumferential surfaces 11a. Further, a shaft 13 is inserted into a through-hole 11b of the polygonal ring 11 to obtain a cylindrical permanent magnet rotor 100.
