SOLUTION: An A/V server 30 in a recording and reproducing system 1 outputs a coding start and/or stop signal to a coder 10 at a desired point in time to control coding of video data and/or audio data by the coder 10. A recording medium of the A/V server 30 records the coded video data and/or audio data. When reproducing, the video data and/or audio data are red from the recording medium, and a decoder 20 decodes the video data and/or audio data.
