1305342 Welding by fusion MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 19 April 1971 [14 March 1970] 24151/71 Heading B3R [Also in Divisions F2 and G1] A method of testing a circumferential welded joint between an end of a multilayer cylinder 1 and another body 2 comprises drilling a radial borehole 4 intersecting the weld 3 and an adjacent region of the cylinder, and inspecting the surface of the borehole and/or a core 5 removed therefrom to determine whether a flaw is present in the weld. Preferably the borehole has a diameter between 10 and 50 mm. and deviates slightly from the radial direction so that the radially inner end of the core contains a lower proportion of weld metal. Preferably the borehole has smooth sides and a rounded innermost end. The joint is welded by the MIG process. |
