1276800 Coating DOW CORNING CORP 31 Dec 1970 [20 April 1970] 62002/70 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and C4] A primer for adhering silicone elastomers to substrates comprises (i) 1 part by weight of tetraethoxy or tetrapropoxysilane, polyethyl or polypropyl silicate or a mixture thereof (ii) 0.75-2.5 pbw tetraalkyl titanate in which the alkyl is C 3-5 (iii) 0.75-5 pbw CF 3 CH 2 CH 2 Si [OSi(CH 3 ) 2 X] 3 in which each X is H or a -CH 2 CH 2 Si(OOCCH 3 ) 3 radical and at least one X is the latter, and (iv) 1-20 pbw ketone solvent of boiling point no greater than 150‹C. Preferably (i) is polyethylsilicate, (ii) is tetrabutyl titanate and (iv) is acetone or methylisobutyl ketone. The ingredients are prepared and stored under anhydrous conditions. In Example 1 epoxy resin, titanium metal, and polyurethane substrates are primed with the above compositions and then coated with a room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber based on poly-3,3,3-trifluoropropyl methylsiloxane.
