The invention relates to a system and to the pertaining method according to which, on the transmitter side, the polarization of at least one modulated optical signal is modified, and on the receiver side the run time modifications of at least one of the optical signals are detected. Said run time modifications are preferably detected by evaluating the modifications of the integral of the control signal of a voltage-controlled oscillator of the clock recovery and are a measure of a polarization mode dispersion which can be compensated for by a polarization mode dispersion compensator. |
