A convenient and commonly applicable method whereby a nucleic acid having an arbitrary sequence can be specifically detected. This method comprises attaching at least a nucleic acid single strand to an electrode, bringing the modified electrode thus obtained into contact with a solution containing the nucleic acid single strand to be analyzed and a redox marker, and then measuring the redox reaction of the redox marker.
