PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can actualize a multi- gradation display of good picture quality and has low power consumption. SOLUTION: An MLS arithmetic circuit 115 weights inputted image data by bits and calculates applied voltages (V1, V2, VC, MV1, and MV2) and application times. A voltage arithmetic circuit 1312 operates the applied voltages and application times calculated by the bits to perform conversion into a V1 (MV1) voltage and its bit width and sign bit and a V2 (MV2) voltage of one pulse. The converted data are transferred to a V1/V2 memory of a segment driver 14. The segment driver 14 imposes PMW modulation on the V1/V2 data and outputs the resulting data to a signal line.
