PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a rolling fatigue life by preventing generation of surface breakage in an outer ring, an inner ring, and a rolling element as much as possible upon mixing of foreign material, and to improve abrasion resistance and seizure resistance by improving a friction characteristic in a contact part between a raceway surface and the rolling element. SOLUTION: This rolling bearing comprises: the outer ring 2, the inner ring 3, and the plural rolling elements 1 arranged between the outer ring and the inner ring. Each of the outer ring 2, the inner ring 3, and the rolling elements 1 is formed of a metal material. A dense nitride layers 2c, 3c are respectively formed only to surfaces 2a, 3a which are sides where the rolling elements 1 of the outer ring 2 and the inner ring 3 rolls, and are constituted of a compound layer and a diffusion hardening layer which have Vickers hardness (Hv) of 900 or more. The dense nitride layers 2c, 3c may be respectively formed only on the raceway surfaces 2b, 3b of the outer ring 2 and the inner ring 3. Alternately, the dense nitride layers 2c, 3c may be respectively formed on all peripheral surfaces of the outer ring 2 and the inner ring 3.
