PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber that is for a shaft. SOLUTION: The shock absorber 10 includes a collar 32 having an opening 36 for receiving the shaft 18, and the opening of the collar and the shaft define a clearance in between. An axially offset pin 44 connects a shoulder portion 40 of the shaft and the collar. Elastic O-rings 50 disposed in the clearance connect the collar and the shaft. When operated, the collar and the shaft rotate synchronously. When the collar is accelerated or suddenly stopped, however, the elastic O-rings are compressed to absorb the impact. The shock absorber can be incorporated in a rotary actuator. In the rotary actuator, the collar includes a stop tab 34 rotatable between two stop faces 28 and 30 of an actuator housing. When the stop tab impacts either stop face, the elastic members are compressed to absorb and reduce the impact force. The internal compression of the elastic members is cushioned via a mechanical stop. |
