PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy for detecting an unrecoverable discharge absence state in an ink jet printer which carries out printing to a printing medium with the use of a printing head having a plurality of nozzles for discharging ink, and which has a discharge detecting means for detecting an ink discharge/discharge absence state for each of the plurality of nozzles. SOLUTION: The number of discharge absence nozzles detected by a previous detection operation is compared with the number of discharge absence nozzles detected newly (S2). When the number of the discharge absence nozzles increases, the discharge absence is judged as caused by a removable temporary factor. After a recovery process (S3) is executed, the detection operation is carried out again (S11), and the result is stored (S4). |
