PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide constitution which can be used even as an optical engine for a rear projector for a liquid crystal projector having the optical axis of a projection lens and the optical axis of a light source arranged in parallel. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal projector device which enlarges and projects an image displayed on a liquid crystal panel by irradiating the liquid crystal panel with the light from a light source and enlarges and projects the image on a screen through the projection lens is so constituted that the optical axis of the projection lens and the optical axis of the light source are arranged in parallel, and a lighting system on the light source side including the light source and an optical system from the dichroic mirror side closest to the light source to the projection lens are formed across the incidence side of the dichroic mirror are made rotatable symmetrically about the optical axis of lighting of the lighting system to hold constant the polarization of a light beam made incident on the dichroic mirror.
