PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of components of a thermal expansion valve. SOLUTION: The thermal expansion valve 10 has passages 110 and 112 for urging a refrigerant to flow toward an evaporator side, and a passage 160 for allowing the refrigerant to return from the evaporator in a valve main body 100. A valve element 130 having a spherical shape for defining a valve chamber 120 is urged toward a valve seat by a support member 132 and a spring 134. A power element 250 has a diaphragm 270 in the interior thereof an transmits the pressure in a pressure-activating chamber 280 to an action rod 150 via a stopper 200. The stopper 200 is provided with a boss 210, into which the top end of the action rod 150 is inserted. A recessed part 208 is formed between an annular protrusion 206 and the boss 210, so that the weight is reduced.
