PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester fiber having a modified cross section, capable of obtaining a silky tone cloth having a good silky gross, softness and light weight feeling even though exhibiting a rough creaking feeling, and especially excellent in puffy feeling. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber having a modified cross section is constituted by monofilaments of which fiber cross sectional shape has a shape consisting of a triangular shape part (A) and a projecting part (B) extended from one apex of the above triangular shape and has 0.7-3.0 range L1/L2 and 3.0-10.0 range h2/h1 (wherein, L1 is a distance from a connecting point of the triangular shaped part with the projected part to another end of the projected part; L2 is a distance from the connecting point of the triangular shaped part to a subtense of the triangular shaped part opposing to the connecting point; h1 is a width of the projected part; and h2 is a length of the subtense of the triangular shaped part opposing to the connecting point of the triangular shaped part to the projected part), and at least 30% of the constituting monofilament has 4-25% crimping ratio.
