PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material for a laser imager and for an image setter output film having high sensitivity, low fog and high maximum density, excellent in image stability and silver tone and also having good shelf stability and to provide an image forming method for the material. SOLUTION: In the silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material containing a non-photosensitive silver carboxylate, photosensitive silver halide grains, a reducing agent and a binder, each of photosensitive ex situ silver halide grains contains a transition metal selected from the groups 6-11 elements of the Periodic Table in a region of 50 vol.% from the grain surface and in situ silver halide grains formed together with the silver carboxylate are chemically sensitized in a process for forming the grains.
