PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an injection quantity control method facilitating the start of an engine. SOLUTION: When the engine is not started by one starting operation, a plurality of starting operation is performed. Up to the N-th starting operation, 100% of the starting injection quantity necessary for the engine start is injected throughout the injection period. When a starter is rotated for 3 seconds or more, a start counter counts up it. When the starting frequency is N+1, the injection quantity is gradually reduced from the 100% starting injection quantity. The lower limit is 50% of the starting injection quantity. On and after the N+2-th operation, the same injection quantity control as the N+1-th is performed. The injection quantity control described herein may be performed for all cylinders, or the injection quantity control may be adapted for a part of the cylinders according to the characteristic of each cylinder while regularly performing the injection of 100% starting injection quantity in the other cylinders regardless of the starting frequency.
