Shape memory actuator (10), comprising a first body member (12), a second body member (14) and a length of shape memory alloy (16) interconnecting the first and second body members such that, when the shape memory alloy is energized, the shape memory alloy changes in length causing the second body member to move coaxially with the first body member. The length of shape memory alloy wire interconnects the first and second body members in a serpentine manner. A spring (52) is adapted to be received within the cavity (24) of the first body member and in contact with the first body member and the neck portion (28) of the second body member. |
