<p>Chemical treatment of a combustible gas sludge provided by an apparatus for controlling air pollution containing a wet purifier for sulphur-containing combustion gas, comprises (a) withdrawing the combustible gas sludge from the wet purifier, (b) subjecting the withdrawn sludge to a preliminary treatment for removing excess liquid, (c) agglomerating the sludge, (d) drying the formed granules in a first furnace, (e) heat treating the granules in a second furnace to form a light solid aggregate, and also to expel gaseous sulphur oxides at an elevated temp., (f) contacting the gaseous sulphur oxides with air to cause heat exchange, (g) utilising the heated air for heating the first and/or second heat exchangers, and (h) optionally utilising the gaseous sulphur oxides for the manufacture of sulphuric acid. The light solid aggregate can be used in the prodn. of concrete building blocks.</p> |
