PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an optically active nitroaryl ether in high yield and optical purity by using an industrially usable base. SOLUTION: An optically active nitroaryl ether is produced by reacting an optically active benzyl alcohol derivative with a nitroaryl halide in a polar aprotic solvent in the presence of a base. The base is preferably potassium t-butoxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium-bishexamethyl disilazide, etc.
