PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device which can meet a user's demands that he/she intuitively know the residual quantity of ink and that he/she avoid continuation of printing by means of an ink cartridge, containing an insufficient quantity of residual ink, in order to prevent a deterioration in the quality of the printing. SOLUTION: A carriage 3 equipped with the ink cartridge 4 is urged around an axis of a horizontal guide shaft 1 in a forward tilted direction by its self weight. When movement of the carriage 3 makes the ink cartridge 4 run on a coiled spring 5 in a position on this side of a home position, an upward urging force of the coiled spring 5 is balanced with a downward load applied to the coiled spring 5. The carriage 3 is provided with an abutting part 32, which is located along a rail 21. A locking part 22 is provided in such a manner as to face the rail 21. The ink cartridge 4 cannot advance into the home position by virtue of engagement of the abutting part 32 with the locking part 22 by backward swing of the carriage 3 when the residual quantity of the ink is insufficient. |
