PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce high-purity xylylene glycol when producing the xylylene glycol by hydrolyzing xylylene diacetate. SOLUTION: This method for producing the xylylene glycol by hydrolyzing the xylylene diacetate comprises subjecting the xylylene diacetate to the hydrolysis reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst, crystallizing the xylylene glycol by using an organic solvent to recover the xylylene glycol as a crystal, taking out a reaction intermediate from the organic solvent after recovering the xylylene glycol, and reusing the taken out reaction intermediate in the hydrolysis reaction of the xylylene diacetate.
