PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting the self-closing speed of a self-closing sliding door and a speed control device. SOLUTION: A generator 15 is used for adjusting the self-closing speed of the sliding door normally applied with trafficability in the closing direction. The speed control device for the self-closing sliding door is provided with a normal travel circuit 23 having electric resistors between the outputs of the generator and a sensor detection short-circuiting circuit 24 having a sensor means for detecting a person or an object and setting the connection between the outputs of the generator conductive when the sensor detects the person or object. The speed control device is formed with a replaceable fixed resistor 17 or a combination of the replaceable fixed resistor and a variable resistor 18 for fine adjustment between the normal travel circuit and the sensor detection short-circuiting circuit. Sliding doors are stratifically classified from a heavy sliding door to a lightweight sliding door, the generator optimum for the heavy sliding door is used, the fixed resistor matched with the stratifically classified sliding door is used, thereby the stratifically optimum self-closing speed and sensor travel speed are attained in the speed control method for the self-closing-sliding door.
