PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device, using a hologram color filter having a color separation function and a spatial modulation element, capable of providing a bright display by improving the usability of illumination light. SOLUTION: The display device comprises a spatial modulation element 6, a light guiding plate 10, and an array 1 of micro volume holograms 1'. The micro volume hologram 1' comprises interference fringes which are provided on the surface of the light guiding plate 10 facing the spatial modulation element 6, and concentrate and diffract light, which propagates through the light guiding plate 10 and has a specific wavelength and a specific incident angle. The interference fringes concentrate and diffract red light on a red pixel of the spatial modulation element 6, concentrate and diffract green light on a green pixel of the spatial modulation element 6, and concentrate and diffract blue light on a blue pixel of the spatial modulation element 6. The light guided in the light guiding plate 10 is directional scattered light 15G, 15R, 15B having different angle of center light ray depending on color. |
