1356307 Brassiers INTERNATIONAL PLAYTEX CORP 14 Sept 1971 [21 Sept 1970]. 42835/71 Heading A3V A brassiere comprises a pair of breast cups 12, 14 of non-stretchable material, an underbust band portion 35 also of non-stretch material extending below each of the cups 12, 14 and secured thereto by means of stitching and tapes 39, an inner stretchable panel 40 extending from the top of the cups to the underbust portions 36 to a point below the lower edges of the cups 12, 14 and also stitched to the cups, the panel 40 being of Y- shape and having stretch directions parallel to the shading lines shown on the panel, outer side panels 50 of stretch material secured to the outer side edges of each of the cups and dorsal bands 56 of all-way stretch material forming torso encircling members by means of which the brassiere may be secured in position on a wearer. An inelastic tape (not shown) is sewn to the central trunk 46 of the Y-shaped panel 40 inside the brassiere to prevent vertical. stretching between the cups 12, 14 and a non- stretchable tape may be similarly sewn along the bottom edges of the underbust portions 36 and dorsal panels 56. The underbust portions 36 need only be non-stretchable in the horizontal direction, that is they may be made from stretch material which has been rendered inelastic in this direction by suitable stitching. In an alternative embodiment the closure members for securing the brassiere on a wearer may be disposed centrally down the trunk 46 of the Y-shaped panel 40 and a long line brassiere is also described in which the Y- shaped panel 40 extends to the bottom edge of the brassiere and the underbust portions 36 are made partly from stretchable material. A front-opening long line brassiere is also disclosed. |
