摘要 <p>The present invention permits production of a monolithic cross flow trap module (1, 14, 20) in a single extrusion process. Thereafter, the trap (1, 14, 20) is fired to sinter the plasticized ceramic material and remove the plastics to achieve open porosity. In an alternative embodiment, an apparatus for and method of manufacturing a monolithic cross flow trap (53) permits the manufacture of the monolithic trap modules (53) in large sizes, various configurations and minimal tooling changes. The preferred material for these trap designs is plasticized ceramic. Following the extrusion or assembly, the traps (1, 14, 20, 53, 80) are fired to sinter the material and provide open porosity. However, the traps (1, 14, 20, 53, 80) could be made of other refractory plasticized ceramics or even plasticized powder metals. The designs and manufacturing processes permit the production of trap modules (1, 14, 20, 53, 80) that have large internal surface areas in the plurality of porous tubular passages (5, 10, 21, 55, 75) for excellent filtration and minimal pressure.</p>
