PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a operating method for a dry smelting furnace capable of suppressing pH decrease of dust-collecting water and avoiding corrosion and wear of a dust-collecting machine, pipes, pumps, etc., even when exhaust gas from the dry smelting furnace for raw materials containing halogen such as fluorine and chlorine. SOLUTION: In this furnace operating method for recovering molten metal by blowing the raw material containing halogen into the dry smelting furnace having at least a plurality of two-staged upper and lower tuyeres for blowing high-temperature air into a filling layer of carbon solid reducing agent, soda ash slag and/or soda ash itself generated in another smelting step is charged from the furnace top of the dry smelting furnace.
