PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize a linearly polarized light source which is light, small- sized, and lightweight and has small constitution and to actualize a projection type liquid crystal display device which is light, small-sized, and lightweight, has simple constitution, and can use an integrator other than a multi-lens array. SOLUTION: A phase difference plate and a reflection type polarizing plate are arranged nearby the luminous flux projection surface of a light source having a reflector in this order from a light source side almost at right angles to the optical axis. |
