PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester highly shrinkable yarn for combined filament yarns exhibiting sufficient heat shrinkage characteristics in a heat-treating and a dyeing steps with a sight extension residual strain in the final fabric and producing an excellent fullness feeling and to provide a method for stably and efficiently producing the polyester highly shrinkable yarn. SOLUTION: This polyester highly shrinkable yarn has >=15 and <35% S2-S1 and >=1 F2/F1 in which S1 denotes the dry heat shrinkage percentage under a constant load at 120 deg.C; S2 denotes the dry heat shrinkage percentage under a constant load at 190 deg.C; F1 denotes the dry heat shrinkage stress under a constant load at 120 deg.C; and F2 denotes the dry heat shrinkage stress under a constant load at 190 deg.C in the polyester highly shrinkable yarn comprising a polyester prepared by copolymerizing a third component in an amount of 8-40 mol% based on the whole acid component. Furthermore, the polyester highly shrinkable yarn is produced by melting, discharging and solidifying a copolyester, then taking off the resultant yarn with a preheating roller heated at 60-90 deg.C and with 1,700-4,000 m/min speed, drawing the taken off yarn between the preheating roller and a pair (two) of heat-setting rollers heated at 100-140 deg.C at a ratio of >=1.6 to <2.8, heat-setting the drawn yarn with the heat-setting rollers and then winding the heat-set yarn.
