PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive high pressure discharge lamp integrated with a high voltage generator, relatively small, whose high voltage charging part is exposed, and whose manufacturing is easy, and provide a high pressure discharge lamp lighting device and a headlight device for an automobile using this high pressure discharge lamp. SOLUTION: This high pressure discharge lamp is equipped with an arc tube IB having an insulating tube body 5 continuing to one of sealing part 1b of a translucent gastight vessel inside which a discharge medium is sealed and a pair of electrodes 2, 2 is sealed and extending in the tube shaft direction, and having a second lead-in wire 4 passing through the insulating tube body 5 and exposed to the outside; and a high voltage generator IG in which a pulse transformer 7 having an annular core 7a through which the insulating tube body 5 is passed, a primary winding 7b and a second winding 7c wound around the core so that the insulating tube body 5 is passed through the turns of the coil, a charge/discharge capacitor, and a switch are installed, the high voltage side of the secondary winding 7c is connected to the second lead-in wire 4, the low voltage side is connected to a first lead-in wire 3 through a lighting circuit device, and output voltage is applied across a pair of electrodes. |
