The invention relates to a bottom plate (1) for lysimeters and to a method for closing lysimeters with a bottom plate. Bottom plates for lysimeters and methods for closing lysimeters, for example using perforated plates, are known in prior art and result in the formation of a boundary layer between the soil and the atmosphere. This leads to the formation of leakage water build-up which causes falsification of natural soil conditions. The application of negative pressure that would prevent the formation of a boundary layer is not possible with these bottom plates. Although known ceramic materials can be used to apply a negative pressure, said materials are not suitable due to their mechanical instability. With the aid of the bottom plate (1), which is made of a sinter material, especially a special steel sinter material, and the method disclosed in the invention, a negative pressure can be applied to overcome the soil/atmosphere boundary layer. Due to the material properties of the plate, a stable and break-proof bottom plate is equally attained.
