1292204 Stacking bags and similar packages CIMENTS LAFARGE SA 29 Jan 1970 [7 Feb. 1969] 4349/70 Heading B8C In a device for stacking bags on pallets arranged on a vehicle floor D, the bags are fed along an elevated array conveyer A and are arrested by a stop 8 until a first vehicle loadlayer is lined up, the stop 8 then being raised so that the bags are fed on to an intermediate conveyer B which is pivoted at 26 to the end of the conveyer A and carries rollers 27 at its free end which engage guides on the lateral members of a loader conveyer C. The bags are packed tightly against each other by intermittently operating the conveyer B, or by operating the latter at a lower speed than the array conveyer A. When the conveyer B is full of bags, the wheeled carriage 29 of the loader conveyer C advances along tracks 30 on a loading platform from its retracted position, not shown, where its leading edge is flush with that of the conveyer B, and at a constant speed proportionate to the bag feed rate, its belt being maintained stationary until it extends, as shown, over the full length of the vehicle platform. The belt drive of the loader conveyer C is then started to travel at a speed co-ordinated to the conveyer withdrawal rate to set the first layer of bags on the pallets on the vehicle. After the laying of the first layer of bags, the belt, and retraction movements of the loader conveyer C, are stopped and a lifting system 31 of the carriage 29 is actuated to raise the conveyer C by an increment equal to one bag thickness. The sequence of operations is repeated until a stack of bags of the required height has been built up, the device then being switched off. The intermediate conveyer B may be provided with two adjustable side guides, and a bagcompressor device such as an upper, freely rotatable, transverse roller. A reversing gear may be used to discharge defective bags.
