PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To position and set a desired frame with high precision in a film scanner by accurately detecting perforations of a film and detecting the movement quantity and movement position of the film with high precision. SOLUTION: In a film adapter as a frame selecting means which moves in a vertical scanning direction orthogonal to the horizontal scanning direction of a color line sensor horizontally scanning an APS film 203 having images made visible, a visible light photointerruptor 225 is provided which detects perforations 203a. The photointerruptor 225 is equipped with a light emitting element LD and a light receiving element PD which receives its light. Even when a film has characteristics of high light transmissivity on a long-wavelength side, the quantity of received light transmitted through perforations is made more than twice as large as the quantity of received light transmitted through the film to securely and accurately detect the perforations.
