PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recording and reproducing information by which a small capacity recording medium can be backed up without post- processing of re-composition, video information can be reproduced with only the backed up recording medium, accordingly, convenience for a user can be enhanced and video information can easily be made into a library, and to provide a system therefor. SOLUTION: When information is recorded on a hard disk 21 in a hard disk drive 20, information is divided and recorded by using an optical disk unit 30 as multiple files A, B, C so as to enable recording and reproduction using an optical disk 31 with a recording capacity smaller than the hard disk 21.
