PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader having a dew condensation removal control function for efficiently removing dew condensation by irreducibly minimum power consumption. SOLUTION: A light source 103 irradiates at each fixed time when a power source of a machine is turned off, and exposure scanning which is performed in a forward movement in the case of normal copying is also performed in a backward movement. In this configuration, the temperature inside a housing is increased by thermal conductivity and radiant heat, the dew condensation is not generated on the front surface of optical parts even when environmental temperature around the image reader is rapidly raised, thereby preventing the occurrence of an abnormal image.
