The invention concerns a feeder (3) associated with a machine manufacturing products in the tobacco industry (1) comprising in particular a tangential gate (2) sequentially supplying an input stock (30) of said feeder. The distribution into portions of tobacco comprising a high proportion of short tobacco strands (60) and portions comprising a high proportion of long tobacco strands (61) from the tobacco flux taken from said input stock is substantially longitudinal when the flux reaches a transfer conveyor (32) of said feeder. By causing said tobacco flux to change direction and by reducing the speed of its displacement, said longitudinal distribution is transformed into a transverse distribution. A spike feed roller (37) placed across the latter flux homogenises said distribution, regulating said distribution into short strands and long strands in the tobacco flux arriving through the slide (42) to be made into rolls.
