PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller and a controlling method for printer in which print operation satisfying a guaranteed print quality at all times can be carried out regardless of the date of manufacture of ink cartridge or the replacing timing thereof. SOLUTION: In the controller and controlling method for printer, if the time elapsed after manufacture of an ink cartridge exceeds a specified reference time for altering the ink ejection switching threshold value at the time of turn on power or replacing the ink cartridge, or the time elapsed after replacing the ink cartridge exceeds a specified reference time for altering the ink ejection switching threshold value at the time of turn on power, a set ink ejection switching threshold value indicative of a residual quantity of ink or an ink consumption for specifying the switching timing of a set ink ejection is altered to such a value as low density layer ink possibly generated on the ink surface side in the ink cartridge begins to be consumed. |
