PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump device operable, while preventing shaft power from being excessively loaded in an assumed operation region of a pump, even when an inverter device fails and an electric motor for driving a pump is operated by directly impressing a commercial power. SOLUTION: In this pump device 17 provided with the inverter device 13 for performing a variable speed operation of the electric motor 15 by supplying power of a higher frequency than a commercial power frequency, required lift and flow rate are normally satisfied by supplying power of a higher frequency than a commercial power frequency, and shaft power is prevented from being excessively loaded in all the operation regions of the pump 17 when the pump 17 is operated with the commercial power frequency by disconnecting the inverter device 13.
