PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing carbon tetrachloride in a fluorocarbon, by which only the carbon tetrachloride in the fluorocarbon is efficiently decomposed and removed without decomposing the fluorocarbon. SOLUTION: This method for removing the carbon tetrachloride in the fluorocarbon represented by the formula: X(CF2)nCl [X is F, Cl or H; (n) is 1 to 20] is characterized by decomposing the carbon tetrachloride in the fluorocarbon with an antimony(V) compound, water, fuming sulfuric acid, a hydrazine compound or triphenylphosphine.
