<p>A replaceable cutting tooth (12) for a slashing saw (10), wherein an exchangeable cutting insert (16), e.g. of tungsten carbide material includes a pair of upper cutting tips (44, 46) with rearwardly divergent adjacent cutting edges (54, 56) and a pair of lower cutting tips (48, 50) also with rearwardly divergent adjacent pairs of cutting edges (66, 68), such that each side surface (30) and top surface (28) are provided with shallow V-shaped cutting edges whereby the cutting tips (44, 46) protrude laterally and outwardly from the tooth (16). As the upper cutting tips (44, 46) wear, the lower cutting tips (48, 50) will continue to maintain a satisfactory width of the kerf. The cutting insert (16) is indexable to present a fresh cutting edge by knocking the insert of shank (14), rotation it and brazing it onto the shank (14).</p> |
