PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inform a user of the cause when causing a reading error in optical information. SOLUTION: When reading a bar code, image data is digitized, and is inputted to a control device (S1) to execute decoding processing. When executing the decoding processing (S2; OK), the result is displayed on a display part 3 (S3). When the decoding processing cannot be executed (S2; NG), an occurrence cause of the reading error is analyzed (S4). This analysis is made by checking whether or not left and right margins are properly secured in the image data, and checking the whole voltage level of the image data. The analyzed cause of the reading error is announced together with the coping method (S5). This announcement is made by both a character display of the display part and voice output. |
