PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp capable of holding a sealing structure of a sealing portion for a long period and elongating a lamp life. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp 100 comprises an arc tube 10 having a pair of electrodes 12, 12' opposed to each other in a tube 15 to be filled with a luminescent material 18 and a pair of sealing portions 20, 20' connected to the arc tube 10 for sealing a pair of metal foils 24, 24', respectively, electrically connected to the pair of electrodes 12, 12', respectively, at least one of the pair of metal foils 24, 24' being formed with a portion twisted 30 deg. or more and 90 deg. or less to a portion of the metal foil on the side of the arc tube 10.
