Backflush cleaning method, for filters, especially membrane filters, uses inertia of fluid in long and rigid pipe

The inertia of a fluid in a relatively long and rigid pipe is used to force small amounts of filtered fluid (9) back through the filter at high speed. A method for cleaning a filter for fluids involves briefly reversing the pressure drop across the filter, so that a relatively small amount of filtered fluid is forced back through the filter openings at relatively high speed. The method uses the inertia of a fluid in a relatively long and rigid pipe. An Independent claim is also included for a filter device in which this cleaning method can be carried out.
