A fuel cell stack has multiple membrane electrode units (1) each held in a frame (2) of two parts sealed together with a hotmelt adhesive layer. Bipolar plates (3) fit between them. Current delivery plates (4) fit on the outer membrane electrode units. End plates (5) hold the fuel cell stack together with pulling bolts fed into drilled holes. A feeder channel (6) and a drain channel (7) for a first reactand are formed from through-holes aligned over each other.
