The seat adjuster includes a gripping element (4) which has a neutral functioning position, in which the seat back (3) and sitting section (2) are locked in their respective position, and a first adjusting functioning position, in which the seat back and sitting section are adjustable simultaneously by a motorized drive. The gripping element in a second adjusting functioning position effects the mechanical unlocking of the seat back and accommodates the motorized adjustment. An independent claim is included for the seat of a motor vehicle equipped with the proposed adjuster.
