PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus for allowing reducing operating amount required for color correction processing to less than that required for conversion processing of the gradation number in a subsequent step, and performing color correction processing and conversion processing of the gradation number at a high speed, without causing degradation in picture quality. SOLUTION: A pre-gradation number converting unit 40 is formed such that the gradation number that is convertible is larger than in a post-gradation number converting unit 46. Then, the pre-gradation number converting unit 40 carries out a pre-gradation number conversion in which the gradation number of color components R, G, and B of original color image data 100 is converted to a gradation coordinate value of an optimum lattice point within a color space. A color correction unit 42 reads gradation corrected data corresponding to the color image data 110 which is subjected to the pre-gradation number conversion, and corrects and outputs the gradation number of each color component Rk, Gk, and Bk. The post-gradation number converting unit 46 carries out post-gradation number conversion to data 120 which is acquired from the color correction unit 42 up to the final gradation number desired for outputting as final color image data 200.
