PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wind power generator and a wind power generating method capable of expanding a range of variable speed driving of a windmill, without increasing the capacity of the generator or making significant changes to the facilities or equipment of a power generation system. SOLUTION: The wind power generator comprises a synchronous generator 2 which generates electric power by wind power, a variable speed converter control part 11 which outputs a voltage command for controlling the generated voltage of the synchronous generator 2, a variable speed converter 3 which controls the generated voltage of the synchronous generator 2 based on the voltage command. The variable speed converter control part 11 uses the wind power generator which outputs the voltage command to perform a field- weakening control for the synchronous generator if the generated voltage is equal to or higher than a preset voltage limit value, based on the target value of the generated power and a generated current, and the generated voltage of the generated power generated by the synchronous generator. |
