PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize stable characteristics adaptive to high sensitivity and high density, even in the case of performing signal reproduction from a magnetic tape having the signal recording width narrower than a head element by using a magneto-resistance effect head element. SOLUTION: Permanent magnet films 14 are arranged at both sides of the magneto-resistance effect head element 11 which is provided in the magnetic head, and also the magnetizing direction of the permanent magnet films 4 is settled to be almost parallel with the magnetizing direction of the head element 11 at the time when a bias magnetic field is impressed on the head element 11.
