PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use an adaptive equalizer circuit for a reproducing device without tracking control. SOLUTION: A reproduced signal is supplied to an analog/digital converter 6 and a phase lock loop means 7 and digitally converted. Characteristic information such as a detection signal from an envelop detector 8 to which the reproduced signal is supplied and a signal from the phase lock loop means 7 to indicate a phase lock, etc., and also the reproduced signal from the analog/ digital converter 6 are supplied to a data generating circuit 10. The reproduced signal and the characteristic information processed in the data generating circuit 10 are supplied to a processor 11 and a weight coefficient is calculated. The processor 11 is controlled by a controller 12 so as to select an adaptive equalization program to be used for the calculation and to control an internal step size, etc., with high precision. Then the weight coefficient calculated by the processor 11 is supplied to a transversal filter 13 and an adaptive equalization processing is performed for the reproduced signal.
