PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a camera compact as a whole without enlarging a component assembling space in the axial direction of a spool for a film cartridge. SOLUTION: A mechanism for preventing the cartridge opening/closing cap 38 from being opened based on the state of a photographic film 36 is arranged on the side of the cartridge opening/closing cap 38, then, the component assembling space is reduced as compared with a constitution where the mechanism is arranged on the inner side of the cartridge chamber 35. That is, peripheral components for preventing the interference are few on the side of the cartridge opening/closing cap 38, and a large working space can be obtained at the assemblage, then, a useless space can be reduced. Thus, the heightwise dimension of the camera 12 is reduced, and the camera 12 can be made compact as a whole.
